We are planning a 2/3 day visit to Upper Teesdale next May staying at the Langdon Beck hotel. Probably the best place in England to see breeding waders in good numbers at close hand including snipe, redshank, curlew and loads of lapwing. The river holds sandpipers, dippers, grey wagtails and oyster catchers. The famous black grouse lek is within walking distance of the hotel (20 males there this year). Views can be had from the car so wonderful photo opportunities. Flowers are in abundance -blue gentians and globeflower and fields full of marsh marigolds. Not to be missed.
