One of the first stories I was told when I first moved up to Sheffield from the south many years ago was about the Yorkshire man boasting about the beauty of his home county “if you don’t believe me lad I’ll take you out into Derbyshire and I’ll show you the most beautiful countryside in England”. What is inarguable is that Yorkshire is the biggest county in Britain and has an extraordinary diverse landscape from limestone dales to Pennine moors, from vertical chalk sea cliffs to mining flashes and reclaimed spoil tips. This diversity is reflected in the diversity of bird species and other wildlife.

Bakewell Bird Study Group welcomes back John Gardner, professional photographer and bird specialist, to give a talk on Yorkshire’s Wild Beauty; by far the biggest county in Britain that has a wide and diverse landscape that attracts many species of birds, plants and insects in the upland moors to the lowland lakes.
